Young Timers Band

A reissue spotlighting Nigerian highlife singer Helen Nkume, who began her career in the early 70s leading the Young Timers. Drawn from her self-produced, limited-edition albums, these recordings capture her move from classic highlife into a dancefloor-friendly fusion of highlife, jazz and afrobeat, what we'd call Countryside Afrobeat. Standouts "Music", "Onye Ije" and "Umu Imo Special" remain among the most loved of that sound.
